Core aeration is the process of pulling small plugs of soil from your lawn to break up compaction and allow air, water, and nutrients to reach the roots. Overseeding follows right behind — spreading fresh grass seed directly into those open channels for the best possible germination. Done together in the fall, it's the most effective way to thicken your lawn, fill in bare spots, and build a stronger root system heading into next season.

Core aeration uses a machine to pull small plugs of soil from your lawn, creating open channels so water, oxygen, and nutrients can reach deep into the root zone. In Grain Valley, Blue Springs, and Oak Grove, lawns typically sit on heavy clay soil that compacts easily — blocking roots from growing down and preventing water from absorbing properly. Aeration solves that problem directly.
Compacted soil suffocates your lawn by blocking water, air, and nutrients from reaching the roots. Core aeration opens up the ground so your grass can breathe, grow deeper roots, and come back stronger season after season.

Over time, heat, drought, and heavy use wear your lawn down — leaving it thin, patchy, and struggling. Overseeding spreads fresh grass seed directly into existing turf to thicken coverage, crowd out weeds, and restore a full, healthy-looking lawn without starting from scratch.

"Jacob did a great job. Got me on the schedule on Friday afternoon. And I was first for Saturday morning. I told him I would spread my own seed, but he insisted he would do it as he was aerating it. I really appreciated that! He even used his blower to clean up the drive from overseeds, and dirt. Definitely recommend this good young man to whoever needs their yard taken care of!"

Everything you need to know about our aeration and seeding process, timing, and what to expect before and after your service.
Core aeration uses a machine to pull small plugs of soil out of your lawn. This breaks up compaction, allows air, water, and nutrients to reach the root zone, and creates ideal conditions for new seed to germinate. Most Missouri lawns—especially those with heavy clay soil or foot traffic—benefit from aeration every year.
Fall is the best window—typically mid-September through October. Cool temperatures and fall moisture help cool-season grasses like fescue and bluegrass germinate quickly and establish strong roots before winter. Spring aeration is possible but less effective for overseeding in this region.
Yes—Mow your lawn short (around 2.5 - 3 inches) before the service, and water in thoroughly 24-48 hours beforehand so the soil is moist but not waterlogged. Soft soil allows the aerator to pull deeper plugs for better results.
Water lightly every day for the first 2-3 weeks to keep the seed moist while it germinates. Avoid mowing until the new grass reaches about 3-4 inches. Stay off the lawn as much as possible for the first few weeks so the new seed can establish.
Most cool-season grasses germinate within 7-14 days under proper watering conditions. You'll see fuller, thicker coverage develop over the following 4-6 weeks. Full results are typically visible by the following spring when the lawn greens up.
The plugs stay on the lawn—that's intentional. They break down naturally within 2-4 weeks and return organic matter and microbes back into the soil. this is a benefit of the process, not a mess. They'll be gone before you know it.
Yes, and we recommend it. Aerating right before fall fertilizer application maximizes nutrient absorption because the channels go directly to the root zone. Ask about bundling aeration, overseeding, and a fall fertilizer treatment when you request your quote
